Steroids: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly?

Steroids have a bad reputation in many circles – and understandably so. Thanks to abuse of steroids of all kinds over the decades, steroids are often in the news for the wrong reason. Like many things that get a bad reputation, steroids are not all bad. In fact, in most cases, they are not even mostly bad.

With most things in life – even things good for you – the effects of overindulgence can be devastating. As such, everything should be used according to proper directions and in moderation. Steroids are no different in this regard. Below, we look at some of the benefits and positive effects of using steroids.

The Many Positive Uses of Anabolic Steroids

Anabolic steroids consist of synthetic and natural hormones designed to affect (usually enhance) physical performance, stimulate fat loss and muscle gain, as well as facilitate other biological, medical, and physical processes. One example of a natural steroid is testosterone, and it is often mimicked by synthetic anabolic steroids (also called anabolic-androgenic steroids or androgens). Importantly, more anabolic steroids often contain traces of the testosterone hormone and consequently comes complete with the following benefits:

1. Increased Sexual Drive

Testosterone is the male hormone controlling male sex drive and, in essence, masculinity. As such, one of the side effects of anabolic steroids containing the hormone is that of an increased sexual drive and stamina.

2. Increased Strength, Muscles, and Physical Performance

As intimated above, anabolic steroids have gotten a bad reputation thanks to the abuses often occurring in sports. However, when used properly they can healthily help to increase muscular definition and strength through growth, subsequently improving physical performance. If one is a sprinter, for example, they are likely to help you run faster than if you were not using them. In a similar manner, if you lift weights, steroids can improve your physical strength and muscle gain. They are particularly great for bodybuilding.

3. Improved Memory and Concentration

Testosterone and the steroids that have it is also a nootropic. That is, they have benefits that impact the mind. These benefits include being able to concentrate for longer periods, as well as recalling more information from memory.

Importantly, the benefits listed above are enjoyed when steroids are used as directed. Steroids should never be abused or overused in any way. Persons should also endeavor to purchase and use legal and verifiable steroids as there are admittedly illegal steroids available that could prove harmful.
